Pictures

This post is mostly going to be pictures from the last week. Over Easter weekend, my dad came up here for work and we were able to hang out a bit while he was up here. We walked around Central Park and down to Rockefeller Center on the first day and then the next day we explored Lower Manhattan around the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, and then ended at the South Street Seaport.

Then on Easter Sunday, my roommate and I went into Manhattan to see the Easter Parade which consists of people dressing up in crazy Easter hats. There were some very interesting hats out!

This weekend, it was beautiful out so yesterday, my roommate and I went to Prospect Park and spent the afternoon sitting outside in the sun and enjoying the day.

I have one more week left in Ob/GYN and will be in the Ob clinic this week. Last week I was in the OR and got to see some pretty cool stuff. After my Ob/GYN rotation I have a week off before starting internal medicine. That's all for now. Love you all!

Macy's Flower Show

So, I'm about to start week 4 of my Ob/GYN rotation and so far I am really enjoying it!! Last week I was in the GYN clinic and than this past week I was in Labor and Delivery and got to help deliver some more babies!! This week I am in sonogram clinic which I have heard is kind of a waste of time and we have to be at the hospital super early so I'm not really looking forward to that but we'll see what actually happens. Today was my only day off this week so I decided to go into the city and do some more sightseeing. Every year. Macy's puts on a Spring Flower Show at their store on 34th street. The theme this year was Brazil and all the windows out front were decorated with different tropical flowers such as orchids, bromeliads, and other plants. The mannequins in the window were dressed in Brazilian Carnival outfits and there was festive music playing as well. They then had a tent out front and inside it was decorated to look like different places in Rio de Janeiro such as courtyards, rooftops, and jungles...it was really cool!! Below are pictures from in the tent. The last two pictures are of two cupcakes I bought today at a place on 38th and Broadway called Crumbs Bake Shop. The cupcakes were huge and were only $3.95 each!! You could also get a giant cupcake that was bigger than a cake for $35! They had a bunch of different flavors too...I got red velvet and cookie dough. I've eaten the cookie dough one so far and it was really good! It was a vanilla cake that was filled with chocolate icing and then the whole thing was topped with an icing that I'm not really sure the flavor of. I should have only eaten half as it was really sweet with the frosting inside the cupcake and on the top. I'm going to have the red velvet one later but I'm sure it will be really good as well!! That's all for now...dad is coming up to visit this coming weekend so I'll be sure to get some pics and let everyone know what we end up doing!! Love you all!!

New Rotation!!

Hello all!!
Sorry I haven't updated in a few weeks but I have been really busy at the hospital lately. Since I last updated, I finished my family medicine rotation with working 2 weeks in the inpatient service for about 12 hours a day. Then on March 12, I started my Ob/GYN rotation. For this rotation, we rotate through a different service every week. The first week, my group was on night float so we each worked 2 or 3 nights from 8P-9A. It was nice because only 4 or 5 of us work per night so we get to do more than we would if the whole group of like 11 people were there. On my first night, I got to assist with a vaginal delivery! I got to help pull out the baby, cut the cord, and deliver the placenta...it was so awesome!! The following night I got to scrub into a C-section which was also really awesome! This time, I didn't get to do as much and only helped retract, suction, and cut sutures but it was still really awesome to be that close to the action!! This week I am going to be working in the GYN clinic which has really long hours...some days going from 6A-7P. Not really sure what it entails but I am looking forward to learning whatever I can from it.

My roommate and I have been exploring the area in our time off and I have taken a few pictures to share with you all. We went to the NYC subway museum which is in downtown Brooklyn and learned all about the history of the subway which was really cool. They also had old subway cars from over the years that you could go in which was also really awesome. Picture below of my roommate and I in the subway cars and then a picture of an old subway car with a ceiling fan in it!!

Last weekend, I went wandering around Manhattan to try and find a new Spring jacket. I ended up getting a pretty good deal on one at Macy's. I also wandered around and was really close to the Empire State Building which was cool so I got a picture of it...

It has been really nice here lately...I think spring may be here! I was walking around my neighborhood the other day and took a picture of some flowers blooming and then later that night, took a picture of my neighbors backyard...he is definitely ready for summer!! He has lights strung up everywhere, has patio furniture out, 2 grills, and a fountain out in his little yard!

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day and it was a beautiful day out so my roommate and I decided to go into Manhattan to wander around Central Park a little and then get a few drinks somewhere in the city. I guess neither of us really thought that the park would be so crazy on St. Patty's day but we were wrong!! There were tons of people walking around that had had a few too many drinks and then there were also just a bunch of people out enjoying the nice day (first pic below). We walked around the park for probably about 2-3 hours because it was so nice. We went up and saw the reservoir that is in the park which I never knew was there so that was really cool (second pic below). After wandering the park, we just grabbed a few drinks, came back to Brooklyn for dinner at a diner, and were home by about 9:30 or so.

I am absolutely loving it here and am so glad the weather is getting nicer so I can go outside when I have time away from the hospital and enjoy what the city has to offer even more!!
