So, my peds rotation has been over for two weeks and I've been spending that time at home in Georgia with my friends and family. It was great to be home for Thanksgiving with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, my grandmother, aunt, uncle, and cousin. We had a great meal and it was good spending time with everyone. Somehow, I managed to get through all of peds without getting sick and then Black Friday I wake up with a high fever and just feel crappy. It ended up that I had viral bronchitis so have been taking some cough meds and steroids and am feeling much better though it sucks that I had to miss Black Friday shopping this year!! Luckily, I had gone out with my dad the night before and found a pair of boots that I wanted that my parents went out and bought over the weekend so that was awesome :) I also ended up with some new jeans as well as the new iPhone 5 which my parents got me as an early birthday present! I am definitely loving it and would recommend it to anyone!
As for school stuff, I head back to NYC on Saturday and start my next rotation, Ob/Gyn surgery, on Monday which I am super excited about!! As great a time I have had at home, I am ready to head back to NYC and get back into my own routine.
That's all for now, enjoy, and I will try to update about my Ob/Gyn surgery rotation as well as when my brother and his girlfriend come up to visit me before Christmas!!

Peds
So, I am now 4 weeks into my peds rotation with 2 weeks left. I have been back in Atlanta for this rotation and have been living with my old college roommates. It has been great being back and seeing my friends and family, but it has definitely made me realize that Atlanta is just not the city for me and, as much as I will miss everyone, I am looking forward to going back to NYC in December. As far as peds goes, it has been a pretty good rotation. I am working in an outpatient clinic and so we see fairly common sicknesses and nothing that is too severe. We get to see a lot of patients everyday which is good and gives us a good amount of exposure to different patients. It is a lot of fun seeing kids all day, but I definitely can't see myself going into peds. I'm much more comfortable with the thought of delivering a baby, and then being done with it! Haha
I am trying to finalize my schedule for the next year and if all goes as planned, I should be done with rotations by the end of November next year. After that, I will have to try and find a few different jobs to earn some money so I can continue to pay my rent and start paying back my loans until I start working in July. As for what I have scheduled, I have all of my required electives scheduled and am trying to schedule another 2 to 3 Ob/Gyn electives so hopefully I will hear about those soon.
Also, as far as damage from the hurricane goes, my roommate kept me up to date with the storm and luckily everything in our apartment was fine and the surrounding area was ok and there was never any power loss. Things up there with subways and such are slowly getting back to normal but I continue to keep everyone affected in my thoughts as I know many people were not so lucky.
Thats all for now! I'll try and update again before I head back to NYC!!

4 down, 2 to go!
So, since I last posted, I have finished my IM rotation and also finished psych. I have 2 cores left to do...peds and surgery, then a bunch of electives that will hopefully be interesting! Psych was ok, definitely better than I was thinking it would be. I enjoyed the rotation but know that I would not want to do that for the rest of my life. Right now, I'm off for a month and then head to Atlanta for two months for my peds rotation!
Lately, my friends and I have been going out to different places for brunch on the weekends and boy have there been some delicious meals!! I also recently went out to a speakeasy in Manhattan with one of my friends. To get to it, you had to go through a hot dog store and then through a fake phone booth. The drink menu was filled with all sorts of weird concoctions but they were good!
I also went to see Cirque de Soleil's "Zarkana" at Radio City Music Hall with friends from work. It was AMAZING!! It is crazy some of the things those people can do!
Last week, my roommate and a friend of ours went out for a night in Brooklyn. We had pizza at Grimaldi's, got ice cream at Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, ate our ice cream at the promenade overlooking all the bridges and Manhattan, and then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. We had a great time and the pizza and ice cream were amazing!! The pizza was nice a crispy and the toppings were perfect and the ice cream was rich and creamy...I had butter pecan, my friend had vanilla, and my roommate had vanilla with caramel sauce that tasted just like a Werther's piece of candy!
Then last weekend, I went to go visit a friend who is currently living near Boston. We had a great time wandering around Boston, had some delicious lobster at Legal Seafood, and got some cupcakes at Georgetown cupcakes. The cupcakes from Georgetown were really good...super moist and an almost perfect cake to frosting ratio...I definitely recommend trying them if you are ever somewhere they have one of their shops.
This past weekend, I enjoyed a beautiful Saturday in Central Park. The weather was perfect and I just sat down near the lake for a few hours. During this time, I saw 8 wedding parties taking pictures and then saw a proposal! I then wandered down to Rockefeller Center and then to Times Square.

So, it has been a while since I've updated. It's crazy how time has flown! Can't believe it's almost July and that I'm 3 and 1/2 weeks away from being done with my IM rotation!! Haven't been up to too much lately but here are some pictures of what I have been up to lately :)
Over Memorial Day weekend, Ruth, Ali and I went down to Coney Island for the day.

Internal Medicine
So, I started my internal medicine rotation a month ago. Everyday, I go into the hospital, see patients, and do rounds with the residents and attending. I don't really do a whole lot as far as procedures and such but I have learned so much from the attendings that it makes up for it. Everyone at this hospital seems to really care about teaching which is great for the students. On my first week I got to see my patient get a cardiac catheterization which is where they thread a wire into someone's coronary arteries and place balloons or stents to open up clogged arteries. I went to watch the procedure and the cardiologist, who didn't even know who I was, sat down with me after the procedure and explained everything to me...it was really awesome. On the weekends, I have been hanging out with some friends doing stuff in the city. A few weekends ago, it was my friend Ruth's birthday and we celebrated by taking a boat cruise at night in the Hudson River. It was so cool getting to see the city from that vantage point. Last weekend, we walked all around Manhattan including going to Grand Central Station, Bryant Park, and Times Square and then on Sunday there was a huge street fair on the next block up from my apartment that was really cool with lots of food and booths set up from local shops selling all sorts of things. This weekend, my friends and I walked around Prospect Park on Friday which was really pretty and then on Saturday went shopping at an outlet mall in New Jersey. Yesterday, I did some chores and then my roommate and I ended up going to our downstairs neighbors apartment and hanging out in the backyard for awhile which was really nice. Enjoy some photos from the past few weeks!!

My week off :)
So, I just finished my Ob/GYN rotation last Friday and had this whole week off before starting my Internal Medicine rotation on Monday. My roommate went home this week so I got to explore the city by myself this week. I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Met, the Central Park Zoo, Chelsea Market, Eataly, and several other places while just wandering through the city. I had a great time this week and love that I live in this awesome city!!! Enjoy some of the pictures from this week. Some of my other pictures from the week can also be found on Facebook.

Pictures
This post is mostly going to be pictures from the last week. Over Easter weekend, my dad came up here for work and we were able to hang out a bit while he was up here. We walked around Central Park and down to Rockefeller Center on the first day and then the next day we explored Lower Manhattan around the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, and then ended at the South Street Seaport.

I have one more week left in Ob/GYN and will be in the Ob clinic this week. Last week I was in the OR and got to see some pretty cool stuff. After my Ob/GYN rotation I have a week off before starting internal medicine. That's all for now. Love you all!
